The #ValoreD4Pride campaign: what is it and what does it involve?
“#ValoreD4Pride – Diversity is Power” is the campaign that focuses on raising awareness on the rights and demands of the LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersexual, asexual and other) community, with which Valore D intends to foster understanding, promote alliances and contribute to the virtuous circle of initiatives put in place to support that community.
At the heart of the campaign is Genderbread, the biscuit conceived by the activist lawyer Sam Killerman to explain in simple terms the complex concepts associated with gender, identity and sexuality The objective of this tool is to help develop an understanding of the fact that sexual identity is the result of a combination of factors, and that every individual is never just this or that, but is the combination of a set of characteristics. The starting point is that words influence behaviour, and so understanding them can help us to act in a more respectful manner.
Did you know that around eight out of ten people belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community have been subject to at least one form of micro-aggression in the workplace linked to their sexual orientation? Such aggression may involve offensive jokes, inappropriate questions on their sexual life, mocking imitations or the deliberate failure to invite their partner to social events along with them. Trans people, in particular, are those who are perceived as being subject to a great deal of discrimination in Italy.
Education and awareness-raising are crucial for encouraging respect and inclusivity within companies. Organizations that work pro-actively to support the LGBTQIA+ community help not only to bridge the gap in terms of discrimination, but also to create more diversified and inclusive workplaces.
