We fight the gender-based pay gap with the #nopaygap campaign
Valore D’s #nopaygap project: how is it and how does it work?
#nopaygap is Valore D’s project that aims to combat the gender pay gap in Italy. This is essential, because in Italy, the same job, with the same number of hours, pays 17% less for women when compared to men. This is a state of the art that is simply “not normal”.
Reducing the gender pay gap is among the first steps to be taken in order to achieve a more inclusive society and to deliver gender equality. Differences in salary lead to inequalities that can negatively affect people’s lives, undermining their economic independence and their right to a fair life.
The #nopaygap campaign driven by Valore D helps to open up a debate on the gender pay gap. It is a gap that is not only economic but also cultural, and which begins from childhood with different levels of pocket money, before being consolidated with the first proper job after graduating, going on to weigh people down throughout their entire career, right through to their pension.
The #nopaygap campaign obtained the patronage of Pubblicità Progresso and received coverage on all of the main TV channels in Italy (Rai, Mediaset, Sky and Viacom).
Italian society is infused with a pay gap that cannot and should not be ignored. The fact that this gender-based difference exists at all – and especially in roles with responsibilities, such as on the boards of companies – is not only “not normal”, as the advert states, but also a loss for the economy and for the country as a whole.
What social impact is #nopaygap having? Let’s take a look at some interesting facts and figures.
