#fillthepanelgap gives voice to gender equality

Valore D’s #fillthepanelgap project: what is it and how does it work?

The #fillthepanelgap digital campaign called “Would you take part if you thought that half the story had never been told?” was conceived by Valore D to promote gender quality on panels. All too often, on Italian panels, only one voice is heard, and so “half the story” is lost in terms of potential value, information, culture, perspective and growth.

With the #fillthepanelgap campaign, Valore D aims to increase awareness of gender diversity among speakers at events, conferences and conventions. How? By involving the scientific community, organizing committees and participants at events, encouraging them to sign up to a Charter that provides indications and specific recommendations for all those who want to work pro-actively to achieve more inclusive panels.

On the basis of the Valore D Charter, promoted via the #fillthepanelgap campaign, when you are organizing or participating in an event it is essential to ensure that within the organizing committee and among the speakers there is an appropriate level of gender diversity, thus creating a rich, exhaustive dialogue and avoiding the pitfall of stereotypes. This is the first step that each of us can take towards the sharing of a form of understanding, increasingly inclusive and comprehensive.
